Reactive nitrogen exchange between agricultural land and the atmosphere

Outreach to Schools

2014 - Booker T. Washington STEM Academy and Garden Hills Elementary Schools, Champaign, IL

Joined the St. Elmo Brady STEM Academy, founded by Ricky P. Greer and Dr. Jerrod A. Henderson. This afterschool and Saturdays program is built to expose 4th and 5th grade boys from underrepresented groups to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our group has prepared age appropriate interactive modules based on pictures, drawing and games relevant to the concepts of sustainability, food production and the environment, air pollution and health effects, biogeochemical cycles and how they affect the composition of the atmosphere, and the nitrogen cycle with examples from growing crops and sustaining healthy fish in aquariums.

The St. Elmo Brady STEM Academy

2013 - Urbana High School, Urbana, IL

In cooperation with the AP Environmental Science class teacher, we developed and offered classes on air pollution effects, dispersion and fate of air pollutants, the nitrogen cyle and air quality.
